EPISODE 5: Why Purpose Is the Secret Fuel for Introverts
[00:00:00]Â
Hello and a very warm welcome to this week’s episode of Quiet Confidence with myself, Anita Popat. It’s so lovely to have you here.
In the last episode I talked about creating an energy led marketing strategy. Marketing that’s going to actually feel good to show up for, but there’s something even deeper that will keep you going.
Especially when it feels like, oh, is anyone even listening to what I’ve gotta say? What’s the pointing, doing all this?
Or when. It all just feels a bit too much and you’re kind of ready to pack it in. And that something is Purpose.
Now I’m not talking about a dramatic idea that’s gonna change the world. When I first started business, I thought my purpose wasn’t big enough. But when I think about it, my purpose is fueled by wanting to change the world of the people that I want to serve. And that’s genuinely the thing that pulls me forward on the things when you’re questioning like, why am I even doing this?Â
So as an introvert, I know you’re not scared to show up. We’re just tired of showing up in ways that feel really performative. Because it leaves you feeling drained and disconnected.
And honestly, you’re not wrong in feeling that way because if you come from a corporate background like myself, you’re probably used to being behind the scenes and kind of keeping yourself to yourself.
So the pressure to constantly post, stay visible, keep up with everyone’s highlight reel, it is almost tempting to kind of betray who you really are and try and be someone that you’re not.Â
But the thing is, if you wanna sell online, and I’m guessing if you’re listening to this, then you do, then people aren’t gonna magically know how good you are.
You’ve gotta let them see it and really feel it. And that means showing up. Not always loudly, but consistently. And. Building that connection with your audience so they really feel like they know you.
Consistency doesn’t come from discipline. It comes from having a meaning. And often that meaning is the thing that’s gonna attract the people who are on the same vibe as you.
’cause the more you share your purpose, your values, what you stand for, the kind of person you are, you’re naturally gonna attract the people who resonate with that. And they’re gonna be a joy to work with because you are gonna be on the same wavelength.
So let’s get [00:02:00] into what your purpose actually looks like.
Like I touched on before, your purpose doesn’t need to be profound. It just needs to mean something to you.
So maybe you’re a mum and you wanna be able to pick your kids up from school or you want the time flexibility to care for your elderly parents.
Now for me, that’s to help the more introverted business owners create a marketing rhythm, that really feels like an extension of you and feels really energizing, not draining.
So your purpose doesn’t need to be something flashy. It just needs to be true to you. And that’s enough. And when it is, that becomes the quiet heartbeat behind everything that you create. And it’s what reminds you in those wobbly moments of like, ah, yeah, this is why I am here.Â
Because listen, I know what it feels like when you put your heart and soul into a caption or an email and you post it and you really excited and you just get silence.
Or when you launch something and you’re really proud of it and no one signed up, and by the way, that’s okay.
It is all learning but it’s in those moments when your ego wants to pack it all in, that your purpose reminds you that we’re not doing this for likes, we’re doing this because it matters.
And when you really get that, you’re gonna see your marketing like that. Real intentional marketing as an act of service and that’s how I treat it.
You’re showing up for the people who need you, not just for the algorithm. And that reframe is what keeps me going, the whole serving over selling mentality.
The thing is, having a purpose that really means something to you really protects your energy as well, because you can have the perfect plan, like you can have batch days, repurpose your content, automate stuff, but if there’s no real meaning behind what you’re saying, a lot of your words will just feel really hollow.
On the other hand, when you are really connected to why your work matters, you’ll stop overthinking.
You’ll stop rewriting and second guessing, and you’ll stop measuring your worth by likes and how many people have watched your story.
You’re just gonna share from a place of clarity, from a place of intention and trust that the right person is gonna see your stuff.
And then suddenly your visibility doesn’t feel like you’re performing. It feels really aligned to who you are.
And if you do get low engagement on your posts, I’m not just saying this to make you feel [00:04:00] better, think about your secret admirers as I like to call them, the people who are watching and they’re taking everything in, but they’re not necessarily interacting.
I’d say probably over 90% of my clients never engaged with any of my posts, and it almost felt like, oh, hello? When they started working with me.
My latest Silent Storm client is a perfect example. She said she knew she wanted to work with me when she landed on my profile, which is like the best compliment. But she waited a week to say yes.
She said she felt really seen and like I understood her and then she spent a week to check me out, see what I was about, and then got in touch and then we’re working together.
So just trust that people are actually watching, even if they’re not physically showing you that they are, think about how you consume your content. You’re probably just scrolling in between doing other things, but you’re still taking stuff in. So just keep that in mind as well.
And also, remember your purpose evolves.
I know sometimes we look at things like your purpose and your values, and think, oh, I can’t talk about this now because I said I stand for this.
But you’re allowed to change your mind.
You know, as humans we grow and we’re drawn to different things. So it’s okay for your business to do that as well.
Now is the perfect time to look at this ’cause we’re in June. So have a look at the past six months and just check in with it and think what still feels true, what’s changed, and what’s really calling me now.
And let that be your compass for the rest of the year.
So if showing up online has felt really heavy or your content feels like, just something that you need to take off your to-do list rather than a creative outlet, and it should really feel like fun when you’re creating content, then come back to your purpose and just take a moment to ask yourself,
What is it that I really want to stand for? Who do I really want to serve? Who lights me up? And who do I know that I can get the best results for?
And let that be your starting point. So you can show up in a way that’s really anchored in what matters, and that is gonna help you stay quietly confident, but make a loud impact too.
So I’m gonna leave you with that today. I hope you enjoyed today’s episode. If you did, please do follow rate and share with your audience.Â
Stay true to your purpose, and I shall see you next time.
