If you’ve just come back from a bit of time off, whether that was the summer school holidays, a proper holiday, or just a quieter few weeks where life got in the way of your content calendar, and you’re now sat there wondering how to get back into marketing after a break, take a breath before you do anything else.

Because the panic that creeps in after a break, the one that tells you you’ve missed out or that everyone’s noticed your silence, is so much louder in your head than it is in reality, and once you see it for what it is, easing back in gets a lot simpler.

Nobody’s been staring at your empty grid

So the first thing I want to say (and I say this with so much love) is that nobody’s been staring at your empty grid waiting for you to post. I know that sounds harsh, but the amount of energy we spend worrying that people noticed our silence is wild, because while you’ve been off, everyone else has been living their own life too.

They’re dealing with their own kids being off school or just scrolling through whatever’s showing up on their feed. So the break you’ve had isn’t going to make or break your sales this month, and you haven’t undone any work by stepping away. The people who are meant to find you will still find you.

Check In With Yourself Before You Dive Back In

Before you dive back in and start creating content for the sake of it, pause and check in with yourself first. A lot of us come back from a break and try to pick up exactly where we left off, posting the same things without ever asking whether it still feels true.

When you’ve actually had a proper break, you’re stood in the shower or out on a walk, things pop into your head. It could be a change of direction, a bit of doubt, or a sense you want to work with someone different.

So before you dive in, it’s worth catching those thoughts and asking yourself the foundational questions again.

What do I want to be known for right now, and how do I want to be helping people?

It might not be what you said in your bio eight months ago, and that’s OK.

Is there anything about your offer or the way you’ve been showing up that’s been niggling at you?

And is it still the same person you were talking to before you went away, or have you outgrown that?

Take some time to think it through, because your foundations change more than you’d think, and I just want the online version of you to match who you are right now.

Your minimum marketing rhythm

Once you’ve done that check-in, let’s talk about how to get back into marketing after a break for real, because this is where people trip themselves up most.

You either do nothing, because everyone else’s back-to-work content feels like too much and you tell yourself you’ll post someday, or you try to go from zero to a hundred to make up for lost time. Neither serves you.

Instead, think about your minimum marketing rhythm, the smallest version of showing up you can genuinely commit to this week, whether that’s one email, three posts, or replying to your DMs.

I’m asking you to think this small on purpose, because consistency isn’t about doing loads, it’s about doing something you can repeat week on week.

Decide on your version of enough rather than copying what someone else is doing, and build up from there if you want to, but don’t force it.

Once you know what you’ve committed to, it’s so much easier to create the content and work with your energy instead of against it, whether you batch it all in one sitting or create as you go. You already know what you’re selling and who you’re talking to, so it’s just a case of taking action.

3 easy posts to ease yourself back in

If your brain has properly switched off and content ideas feel impossible, this is actually a good time to remind people, especially anyone new who’s found you over the summer, who you are and what you do.

Start with a simple intro post, or reuse one you’ve already got, then follow it with a reminder of what you offer, because you’d be surprised how many followers still don’t know. And share a client testimonial or story that shows people what it’s like to work with you.

Chances are you’ve posted this content before, so it’s just a case of reusing it as it is, or tweaking it if that check-in gave you anything to change.

These three posts are a lovely way to ease yourself back in, and they’d work well as pinned posts for anyone new landing on your Instagram profile too.

Start small and be kind to yourself

Remember, no one’s been checking in on you as closely as you think they have.

Check in with yourself first, decide what your minimum marketing rhythm is, and start with those three posts to keep things easy this week.

That’s genuinely the whole plan.

And if you want a hand figuring out your foundations properly, the questions about who you’re for and what you want to be known for are exactly what we work through together inside Silent Storm.

I hope this helps you ease back in with a bit more kindness towards yourself. If it does, I’d love it if you shared it with another introvert who might be staring at their laptop wondering where to start.
